MY MSA STATEMENT

Image
MY MSA STATEMENT Why study at MSA? Oprah Winfrey once said: “Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you”. When I look back at this quote, I recall the times when I said to myself deliberately that I wanted to become a great architect. Of course, studying in a prestigious university determines the level of greatness. Therefore, I chose Manchester School of Architecture with the desire of becoming successful. Actually, my choice was not only based on the ratings attributed, but it was a mixture of different factors that aroused my interest for this school. In fact, MSA has always kept a high standard of teaching as we can observe from their constant academic performance. Through listening to famous alumnus’ positive feedbacks, I was intrigued by the school’s commitment and devotion to help students to achieve their goals. MSA provides the best tools and equipment out there when it comes to architecture. Consequently, studying architecture at ...

MY ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO

ARCHITECTURAL WORKS

Image
ARCHITECTURAL WORKS Having a passion for architecture means first of all showing a general interest in it. Therefore, I made some sketches and some drawings on buildings, houses and other structures. Moreover, if we believe in the proverb which says: ‘if you love something you need to prove it’ then I present to you my works which comes straight out from my imagination.

GLASS AND PLASTIC BOTTLE

Image
GLASS AND PLASTIC BOTTLE On the left is an observational drawing that I made with a black pen and a pencil. The shapes are quite distinct and we can clearly observe a Hedges Butler glass bottle ( that I took from my father’s spirit collection, a squeezed plastic bottle and a shattered wine bottle.  The reason for choosing “bottle” is because across the whole wide world, the latter is the most common detritus in the environment. They are present as much as in waterbodies as on land. Actually, I can’t stress enough how 8 million tons of bottles at sea is outrageous for the marine life. It is estimated than as from 2050, there will be more bottles at sea than fishes.  Therefore, I drew these bottles made from different materials to raise awareness that these materials can be recycled, reused and reduced. Consequently, it is now important to think about making a move and save the environment. If actions do not speak louder than words, then, we can ...

OBSERVATIONAL DRAWING 1

Image
OBSERVATIONAL DRAWING 1 Here are observational drawings of a pawpaw and a pineapple realised under certain conditions so as to obtain the different lightings and shadows. Acrylic paint and ink was used for a more realistic drawing. In fact, I made these drawings under the guidance and supervision of an art and design teacher. The latter asked me to bring my favorite fruits and draw it at different angles.  Actually, it took me a lot of trials and time to obtain the final result since I could not believe in myself in giving such a work. I learned to surpass myself through this observational drawing and knew that I had the capacity to draw and perhaps make better works.  I drew these fruits in view of the architectural portfolio that I had to submit to universities. Henceforth, I remind myself recurrently to never give up to achieve greater things whether it is in drawing or in my actual life.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Image
PHOTOGRAPHY Besides drawing and sketching, I found a late passion for photography. In the past, I had a phone whose camera was very poor and had a low resolution. However, I was then given a phone implemented with AI technology and captured photos in high quality. My photography style was focused more on landscape because this is a feature that contributes enormously on the beauty of a country. Actually, these photos were taken from different countries but mostly in Mauritius. I should have added photos about the Mauritian people because they are one of a kind. Nevertheless, these are photos that I have taken with my AI implemented phone to immortalise the actual moment and review it in excitement while saying, “ Yeah! This was a good shot”.

CONSTRUCTION WORK

Image
CONSTRUCTION WORK During my school years studying Design and Technology, I found great interest in the construction of models and artefacts. From my very first model to the last, I kept expanding my thoroughness and decency on the aesthetic and creative aspect thus, helping me in designing as well as building this architectural piece in view of the portfolio.

OBSERVATIONAL DRAWING 2

Image
OBSERVATIONAL DRAWING 2 These are couple more observational works that I made in view of the architectural portfolio still under the guidance of an art and design teacher. Starting with the bracelet , I tried to make a drawing on my own. I made the bracelet with water color. It took time and patience to make. Then, I made the leaves and the ball to improve my observational skills. Finally, I tried working with pen to ameliorate my rendering quality by drawing a bell pepper .

ARTEFACT 1

Image
ARTEFACT 1 The photos at the bottom show a dual table that I made for A-level. As a result of some house problems, I decided to design and manufacture a table that would serve two persons. The table would also be equipped with storage compartments to store files properly. Moreover, the table would cater for space constraints by sliding underneath the primary table and thus make it one unit. Nevertheless, It was the result of a perpetual hard work and the efforts paid off finally because I was ranked 8th nationally in Design and Technology. Now, when I look back at my artefact I can say proudly that THIS IS MY WORK .

ABSTRACT WORKS

Image
THE LADY This painting made with oil pastel is a work that I made after a visit to the art gallery.   I discovered many paintings including one that was the most outstanding among others. It was the painting of a woman with a melancholic face but still her beauty was present. Therefore, I decided to create my own perspective of a woman with still life. Coupled with my unique style and a variety of  tonalities of colors, I managed to create “The Lady ". Above all, what attracted me in this painting is the message it conveys. We can understand that there is a woman with a decent composure and who shows her beauty as a result to hide her suffering. In short, this painting hides an important message that says, "Always show one’s strength despite being weak interiorly". IN HARMONY This painting was inspired by a famous local painter known as Vaco Baissac. His  unique style has motivated me in making “In Harmony” but to d...

TIME OF DOOM

Image
TIME OF DOOM This is my town ,Curepipe, a place where architectural merit is not the most prominent feature but where the enthusiasm, the hectic life of people, the political aura just after the elections as we can observe from the banners, the shops and the cars horning all day long once enriched the city with euphoria. However, a city also known as the city of lights but where darkness is now the new ruler, a city known for being hectic but in these times, it is the most desertic city just  like a forgotten man in the middle of a vast sea of sand. This city is not my city anymore, actually, it is now a ghost place. What in god’s sake did we do to deserve this? nothing. What did we do to prevent people from laughing and smiling? nothing. Who is the biggest culprit in this game, is it someone? Is it something? Of course, a virus, a pandemic virus, an intruder in our country. Unfortunately, we have no choice but to hide and remain silent to protect our nears and d...

ARTEFACT 2

Image
ARTEFACT 2 During my years at school, I was to make two projects for O-level and A-level respectively. The photos on top show a learning aid for babies, a project I made when I was in o-level. This learning aid helps babies to play, feel, touch and stand up by themselves.

LE JOUR ET LA NUIT

Image
LE JOUR ET LA NUIT This is a collage art made completely from newspaper. It shows a tree in the middle making the connection between night and day. I’ve particularly used newspaper to bring attention that newspaper can be used in art as well. Consequently, my message is to use the newspaper  effectively for art or by recycling and therefore care for the nature ( the tree in the showpiece ) every night and day . Actually, the job of an architect is not  only designing structures but also to care about the surroundings in the design process. Nevertheless, I should have probably added animals to fortify the image of a strong biodiversity and thus, take greater care of the environment around us.
